Today 30 years ago, they simulated a power failure in the reactor number 4 of the Vladimir Ilyitch Lenin Power Station near Chernobyl. They lost control, it made “Boom” and the rest of the story is well-known.
The meltdown at the Soviet plant was the worst nuclear disaster in history.
The neighbouring city of Pripyat was a super modern town at the time and very privileged people lived here. Shortly after the disaster, Pripyat was fully evacuated and has been a ghost town since.
I visited Pripyat, Chernobyl and the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone with some friends on 10 April 2016.
