The national dish of Bosnia and Herzegovina is Ćevapi (Ćevapčići)

🍖 Ćevapi

Ćevapi are small, skinless grilled minced-meat sausages, usually made from a mix of beef (sometimes lamb). They’re traditionally served with:

  • Somun (soft flatbread)
  • Raw chopped onions
  • Kajmak (a rich, creamy dairy spread)

Simple, smoky, and deeply tied to everyday life, ćevapi are eaten across the country, from Sarajevo to Banja Luka, and are a core part of Bosnian food culture.

Other iconic Bosnian dishes

Bosnia and Herzegovina 🇧🇦 also has several dishes that are almost as emblematic:

  • Burek – flaky phyllo pastry filled with meat (or cheese/spinach in other varieties)
  • Begova čorba – rich chicken and okra soup, historically linked to Ottoman-era kitchens
  • Bosanski lonac – slow-cooked meat and vegetable stew
  • Dolma & sarma – stuffed vegetables and cabbage rolls
