The flag of Western Sahara (used by the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic – SADR) consists of:
- Three horizontal stripes:
- Black (top)
- White (middle)
- Green (bottom)
- A red triangle on the hoist side (left), containing a red crescent and star in the white stripe.

Meaning of the colors and symbols
The symbolism closely follows the Pan-Arab tradition:
- Black – suffering and the colonial past
- White – peace and hope
- Green – prosperity and the land
- Red triangle – the struggle and sacrifice for independence
- Crescent and star – Islamic and cultural identity
Why this flag is political
Western Sahara is a disputed territory.
- Morocco controls most of the territory and flies the Moroccan flag there.
- The SADR, proclaimed by the Polisario Front, uses this flag in refugee camps in Algeria and in areas it administers, and it is recognized by a number of states.
