National dish of Uzbekistan

The national dish of Uzbekistan is Plov (also called osh or pilaf).

Plov is a hearty rice dish usually made with:

  • Rice
  • Lamb or beef
  • Carrots
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Spices such as cumin

It is traditionally cooked in a large cast-iron pot called a kazan and is an important part of Uzbek culture, especially during weddings, holidays, and celebrations.

Different regions of Uzbekistan have their own styles of plov, with Samarkand and Tashkent being especially famous for their versions.
